Teaching Experience


Associate Professor of Journalism, Berry College Department of Communication, Mt. Berry, Georgia. Courses taught: Media Law, Digital Storytelling, Cross-platform Editing, Writing for Digital Media, Visual Rhetoric (Fall 2003 to the present).

Teaching assistant, School of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Course: Electronic Information Sources, an introductory survey course of the Internet, electronic databases, and HTML Web authoring. Approximately 45 students in two two-hour lab sessions in which students are taught online database search skills, research skills, basic HTML, Macromedia's Dreamweaver 4 Web authoring software, Adobe Photoshop, photo scanning, and Web publishing using file transfer protocol, among other topics. (Fall 2001, Spring 2002).

Instructor of record, School of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Course: Electronic Information Sources, an introductory survey course of the Internet, electronic databases, and HTML Web authoring for 20 students. Case Goods Editor and Online Editor, Furniture/Today. Wrote and edited weekly coverage of case goods (bedroom and dining room manufacturers), international trade and the Internet. Editor for Furniture/Today International, a monthly section devoted to international news. Editor responsible for management of and content creation for Furniture/Today Interactive, the newspaper's Web site at www.furnituretoday.com. (December 1994 to April 2000.)

Staff Writer, Furniture/Today. Beats included home office, home theater, occasional furniture, leather upholstery and retail technology. (May 1992 to December 1994.)

Associate Editor, Game Player's Sports for Kids, Greensboro, N.C. (Promoted September 1989 from Assistant Editor.) Wrote and edited articles for national monthly magazine for sports-active kids ages 7 to 17. Managed editorial-to-production, including supervision of six writers. (September 1989 to October 1991.)
